|
| Sponsor | ericthehamster | Feb 4, 6:40am | Good question!
On the whole, I would like to see the original sold "as is". We have some great comedy here!
A lot of the argument for remaking is that some material just doesn't translate culturally. However, if this is so, then how does one explain the success of such quintessentially British humour as Python, in the States?
The Office was excellent, and I could never work out why there was a need to remake it (although I have heard a lot of people here in the UK sing its praises). I am not sure of the details, but I think a lot of our sitcoms have been remade for the US market. Is some of it to do with protecting local talent (writers and actors)? |

| Sponsor | SwimbikerunMN | Feb 4, 12:07pm | That's the funny thing, look at all the US actors faking British accents for the role, Joanne's Diary (sp) comes to mind. Geez, I hope it's not due to the accents.
I agree, I think there are plenty of funny shows that would do well 'as is'.
Benny Hill still gets aired here too. We need more British comedies, I think. |

I don't even know if that would have been news in NZ.
He finished at a time of women's Lib.
When will there be reruns of Benny?Maybe not.
Is there to be a US remake of Benny?I think not. |
